Newsletter 2/2017

Dear readers,

Producing fuel with the help of bacteria, exploring the secrets of proteins as keys to the body's immune defence and investigating the impact constitutional law has on politics: in early May we honoured this year's Alexander von Humboldt Professors who, for example, are working on these subjects and through their work will enrich the research landscape in Germany in the coming years. In this newsletter we present the winners and their work in film portraits. At the same time, we are pleased that we have already been able to select the first Alexander von Humboldt Professors for the class of 2018.

However, the Humboldt Foundation promotes excellent research not only in Germany: a new chair at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Limbe was recently filled – making this the first time a woman has been appointed to a German Research Chair at an AIMS Centre.

You can read about this and much more in our newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading it!
