2020 Humboldt Alumni Awards presented – Applications for the 2021 awards now possible

This year’s awards for the best networking initiatives developed by Humboldtians are going to Cameroon, Kenya, New Zealand and Romania. Applications for the 2021 Humboldt Alumni Awards are being accepted through 30 November 2020.

For the twelfth time now, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has granted Humboldt Alumni Awards to single out Humboldtians abroad for innovative networking ideas. The award-winning initiatives are forging new paths for deepening academic and cultural ties between Germany and the individual alumni’s home countries and strengthening alumni networks. For the first time, awards will also go to innovative formats for science communication.

A new approach to science communication

This year’s awards went to an interdisciplinary network for researchers in Cameroon; a project to control mosquito larvae in Kenya; a network to promote intercultural perspectives in music history research in New Zealand, and an initiative to foster science communication in Romania (updated: July 2020).

Virtual award ceremony

Due to the corona pandemic, the Humboldt Alumni Awards were presented in a digital ceremony this year. The award-winning initiatives were presented and honoured on 24 June as part of the opening ceremony for the virtual annual meeting.

Humboldt alumni have until 30 November 2020 to apply for a 2021 Humboldt Alumni Award. The award comes with up to €30,000 for establishing networking initiatives. This funding is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office.
